Game of the Week: Toronto North at Houston RoughRiders

Our Expert Predictions:

Jeremy Piper : Toronto North
Yeah, the North win, and it is the leadership of Robert Thompson - DT and Joe Hornsby - DE that will make the difference in this game. They will put up a lot of points.

Mary Moore : Toronto North
Look for them to build on their last win.

Jim Nox : Toronto North
This is a high powered offense. They are 4th in the league pass completion percentage. They are 1st in the league passing touchdowns with 24. They are 1st in the league passing yards per game. They average 252.5! They are maulers, 5th in the league in pancakes. They are 5th in the league average yards per rush. They are 5th in the league rushing touchdowns with 9. They are 3rd in the league points scored per game. They average 23.6!

Looking at how the teams match up, I do not think there is any doubt that Jaime Low - CB is going to be a difference maker on the RoughRiders defense.

Neely still having red flags

RoughRiders' Lewis Saucedo has an opinion on who is the best SS

'We see a lot of players thinking they are the best at their position', said the RoughRiders SS Lewis Saucedo. He continued. They only give up 184.1 per game. They are 5th in interceptions with 7. They are 3rd in the league in tackles for loss. The referees will have their work cut out for them. This will be very competitive and intense.

Mary Moore : Houston RoughRiders
They are on a win streak. They will continue that streak. They will win this game. This game will be so very entertaining.

Jim Nox : Houston RoughRiders
I love what they are doing in Houston coaching-wise. Head coach Justin Harris is a major reason they will win this game. Offensively he is a great and innovative thinker. He is doing some clever things with his defense. He preperation is impeccable. But it will be much closer than many think..

Darren Francis : BCFC Bears
There will be some very good football to watch here.

Looking at how the teams match up, I agree with popular opinion that Ramiro Williams - C will shine for the Totems offense. They rely on him, and he will deliver. This will be a very up and down affair.

Jim Nox : Seattle Totems
And you can take that with you to the bank.

Darren Francis : Houston RoughRiders
The RoughRiders are a much better team than everyone thinks

Trouble in Toronto

Sources in Toronto confirm that the North locker room is fractioning. In particular two players have been on collision course according to an anonymous player on the team who said: 'I do not know what is up with Bill Day and Richard Griffiths. They have been going at it for a while now. The rest of us are worried.'. Coaches came running onto the turf earlier this week in training when Richard Griffiths - FB alledgedly shoved Bill Day - TE to the ground. This led Bill Day - TE to embark on an explicit-laden tirade. Eventually, Day had to be taken into the locker room by the coaches.

Moore and Nox Mock Draft

Pick 1: Seattle Totems
Larry Moore: Frances Bailey - DT
This is the kind of kid you want to promote the game. Well behaved, loves the game, and respectful. Teams want players can hold the middle. He is strong enough to stay on his feet against grown men. Good speed for a Defensive Tackle. He should get sacks. And you know who likes sacks? Everyone! Well, except offenses. Are there other guys worth picking here? Sure, but none of them fit this well with what they need, and he is a solid talent.

Jim Nox: Frances Bailey - DT
His good natured behavior, even toward opponents have earned him some criticism, but also an awful lot of respect. His strength gives him a chance against the big boys in the pros. He can deliver pressure up the middle with his speed. But will struggle to chase down faster Quarterbacks outside the pocket. When the available talent fits what you need, there is reason to celebrate. They are getting a great talent who will serve them for many years.

Pick 2: Windsor Gamblers
Larry Moore: Perry Gamez - WR
Knows what it takes to achieve success at any level. Sportsmanship, love of the sport and respect, is what you get with him. Will hold onto the ball if he gets his hands on it. Fast enough to challenge good cornerbacks in man coverage. And enough speed to threaten the deep ball. This guy is available. This guy fills a need. They have to take him. It makes so much sense.

Jim Nox: Perry Gamez - WR
Known for showing up early and staying late. Respected for his good behavior on the field. Will occasionally impress you by coming down with throws others would not catch. He plays faster than his forty might indicate. With this kid, this is a need pick they will not regret.

Pick 3: New Orleans Reapers
Larry Moore: Raul Goodwin - DT
He brings decent strength to the position. Can collapse the pocket against weaker offensive linemen. This young man is explosive enough to pressure Quarterbacks up the middle. He has above average closing speed. This is a kid who tackles well. Solid talent that fits their needs. Really that is all there is to it. Perfect situation. Take the money and run.

Jim Nox: Raul Goodwin - DT
Will flatten smaller offensive linemen and go toe to toe with bigger ones. Not really a speed rusher. But still among the faster DTs. Enough explosiveness to get the the Quarterback, and that is all you need really. Goes nice and low on tackles. It is all about fit here. Is there a guy at a position of need, worthy of a pick this high? The answer, obviously, is 'heck yeah'.

Pick 4: Toronto North
Larry Moore: Sam Munson - SS
The kind of leadership he shows makes coaches salivate. Respected for his good behavior on the field. Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. Solid talent that fits their needs. Really that is all there is to it. Perfect situation. Take the money and run.

Jim Nox: Sam Munson - SS
His leadership is through the roof. He is on the frontline, always. His good natured behavior, even toward opponents have earned him some criticism, but also an awful lot of respect. The guy has gets along with everyone. They need players at the position, and good ones at that. He fits the bill, he is worth the pick. End of story.

Pick 5: Memphis Pharaohs
Larry Moore: Daryl Ly - G
Known for showing up early and staying late. This is a kid who really contributes to the team spirit and the social cohesiveness on the team. His strength is already good, and he has not even started his professional career. Shows good understanding of his assignments on the field. Once this kid gets in the building, they will be set at this position for years.

Jim Nox: Andrew Reed - WR
Coaches love the leadership skills in this kid. He helps everyone get in the right position, making the team run as a well oiled machine. Will hold onto the ball if he gets his hands on it. Fans might not be on board with what can be framed as a need pick. But trust me once they see this kid play, they will be more than happy.

Pick 6: Nova Scotia Sharks
Larry Moore: Christopher Rodriguez - DT
Reliable tackler. Reacts with good instincts. They need playmakers at this position. This is what they are getting here. Solid pick.

Jim Nox: Christopher Rodriguez - DT
Finishes tackles. Reacts quickly and puts himself in a position to make a play. He fills a need for them. They will be happy to get him.

Pick 7: BCFC Bears
Larry Moore: Richard Withers - LB
Knows what it takes to achieve success at any level. He is driven by the love of the sport. Known for helping out teammates, if they hit a rough patch, whether it is on the field or in their personal lives. You will see him make a lot of tackles. This guy is pure muscle. He will shed blocks and hit he hole on run plays. It is not often that the talent available fits perfectly with what you need. When it does, it makes for a win-win situation. This young man is going to be put in a position to succeed.

Jim Nox: Richard Withers - LB
Here is a kid who no one doubts will put in the work. Respected for his good behavior on the field. This is a kid who really contributes to the team spirit and the social cohesiveness on the team. Consistently takes down ball carrier on tackles. In college, he dominated when bull rushing. He is strong enough that he can continue to do that in the pros. They need players at the position, and good ones at that. He fits the bill, he is worth the pick. End of story.

Pick 8: Houston RoughRiders
Larry Moore: Florencio Reyes - DT
Nice closing speed once he gets penetration. Forces QBs from the pocket. They would be crazy not to take him here. A great fit, both in terms of what they need and the quality of player they get. This will put a smile on many faces.

Jim Nox: Bobby Gavin - LB
You need to stay on him, or he will turn the edge on you. Teams want Defensive Ends that keep Offensive Tackles honest. Bright kid, reacts well on the field. Fill a need, get a quality player, everyone wins! He will fit right in with the pros.

Pick 9: Seattle Totems
Larry Moore: Andrew Reed - WR
A leader on the field and in the locker room. I want this kid on my team. He understands his role on the field, and how it fits in with what everyone else is doing. Has pro ready catching ability, and that is what you are lookng for if you are going to take a receiver this high. This guy is available. This guy fills a need. They have to take him. It makes so much sense.

Jim Nox: Florencio Reyes - DT
Quick enough to get to the Quarterback, and they need more pressure inside. It is all about fit here. Is there a guy at a position of need, worthy of a pick this high? The answer, obviously, is 'heck yeah'.

Pick 10: Windsor Gamblers
Larry Moore: Robert White - FS
Wraps up the ballcarrier on tackles. Fill a need, get a quality player, everyone wins! He will fit right in with the pros.

Coaching Carousel Predictions.

The offseason is upon us and that means teams are shaking up their coaching staffs. This means that we get to take our annual look at coordinators who could make the leap to become head coaches, and the teams who are likely to poach them.

The prime candidates identified by our experts are:
Jeffrey Clark - Defensive Coordinator - Houston RoughRiders
Robert Campbell - Offensive Coordinator - Houston RoughRiders
Charles Mack - Offensive Coordinator - New Orleans Reapers
William Dix - Offensive Coordinator - Seattle Totems
Richard Morrison - Offensive Coordinator - Memphis Pharaohs
Thomas Cramer - Offensive Coordinator - Windsor Gamblers
Jimmy Ulrich - Defensive Coordinator - BCFC Bears

As always, we are prone to wild speculations, so we asked our in-house experts to do a little matchmaking between candidates and teams. Here is what they came up with:

Mary Moore:
Charles Mack leaves the Reapers to become the head coach for the Seattle Totems.

Darren Francis:
I think the Bears lose Jimmy Ulrich and I see him heading to Seattle Totems.

Jim Nox:
The RoughRiders cannot hold on to Robert Campbell. I would like to see him coach the Seattle Totems.

Jeremy Piper:
Jimmy Ulrich is certainly on the move. That means Bears will need a new coordinator. As for where Ulrich ends up? Well, I think Seattle Totems is a good bet.

Contract Updates

The following players have unlocked bonuses in their contracts based on their performance last season:
James Chun - DE (New Orleans Reapers) unlocked a 10% bonus for Sacks (Target: 15 / Accomplished: 18).
Jesse Halverson - RB (Seattle Totems) unlocked a 10% bonus for Rushing TDs (Target: 5 / Accomplished: 7).

To James Grigsby - QB, the past is the past.

James Grigsby is a great story, having worked his way out of a troubled youth. To many, Grigsby is becoming a posterboy for the league's ability to help talented young men rehabilitate themselves through sports.

Matthew Stidham - WR under criminal investigation!

It looks like the off field troubles of Matthew Stidham have finally caught up with him. Local news reports that a criminal investigation has been launched looking into previous criminal misconduct of Stidham. The league has reiterated that standard policy is to await results from the criminal investigation before deciding on any punishment.

Rene Steiner - LB under criminal investigation!
